Deep Dark Chocolate Cake Recipe

Ingredients

Cake:
1-3/4 cups all purpose flour
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup cocoa
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup boiling water

Frosting:
1/2 cup cocoa
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
2-2/3 cups powdered sugar
4 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Method

Cake:

  1. Combine dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add remaining ingredients except boiling water then beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Remove and stir in boiling water then pour into two greased and floured cake pans.
  4. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes then coo 10 minutes on rack.
  5. Remove from pans and cool completely.

Frosting:

  1. Cream butter until softened in a small mixing bowl then add cocoa and blend well.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar alternately with milk and vanilla and beat well.
  3. Spread on cake.
