Chocolate Pound Cake Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup butter softened
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup cocoa
1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. Cream the shortening and butter.
  2. Gradually add the sugar, beating well at medium speed with an electric blender.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each.
  4. Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa together.
  5. Add to the creamed mixture alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just blended after each addition.
  6. Stir in the vanilla.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 10 inch bunt pan.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees F for one hour and 15 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan 10-15 minutes, remove from the pan and let cool completely on a wire rack.
